Signs of Pest Infestations to Look for When House Hunting

Pest infestations are surprisingly more common than people think. In fact, the National Pest Management Association reports that 1 in 5 Americans suffers from bed bug infestation. Aside from that, 56% of Americans also have problems with ant infestations. Termites are also a big problem, causing $5 billion worth of damage annually. The sum doesn’t even cover the damages other kinds of bugs make when they infest homes.

So what do you do if you think you have an infestation?Of course, call up the pest control near your area. If you live in Minnesota, call up the Minnesota pest control. Even if you see just a few bugs around the house, nip them in the bud and nuke them out right away.

If you’re house hunting, you might want to make sure that the house is free from any infestation. Here are a few signs that will tell you that there are pest infestations:

You have to watch out for rat droppings and rat holes. Droppings can be found just about anywhere. If they’re not enough evidence, look for rat holes, which are usually on the walls. Other signs include chewed wires, furniture, clothing, and food.

Termites are extremely destructive bugs because they can destroy houses in just a few days. Before they breed, you must check for signs of their presence. Since termites feed on wood, you might want to check wooden walls first. If there are holes in them, then you should be alarmed. Hollow or soft walls, termite dung, and wing droppings are also tell-tale signs of termite infestation.

While ants don’t pose that big of a threat, they are quite annoying. The best way to check for ants is to check the corners of the house. Ants usually travel in a line through the corners to look for food. You can usually find a colony of ants behind your furniture or behind your home appliances.

Aside from being really disgusting, roaches are also a hazard to your home’s cleanliness and your family’s health. They contaminate food, dirty the utensils, and bring bad bacteria wherever they go. To spot roach infestations, you must watch out for their smell. They leave behind a certain rotten stench. Also, you may look out for roach legs, eggs, and droppings.

Spiders are also very quick to invade houses, especially if you leave things lying around. The most obvious sign of a spider infestation is the presence of webs. If you see a lot of webs in the corners of your house, then there definitely are spiders. Other signs include stray spider legs and dead spiders on the floor.

If you notice any of these signs in your homes, then the house you are planning to buy might be infested. Ask the owner what his plans are to eliminate the pests. However, if the infestation has damaged the house way too much, it’s better to look at your other options.
